Ministry of Sound, Mixxed and Sunday School

“Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we’re here we should dance” unknown poet said long time ago. Well this weekend I’m doing my best to make the dancing bit as fun as possible.

On Friday I’ll be playing second time at Ministry of Sound in London. The Gallery (which is an institution itself) does the Friday nights and this Friday Andy Moor’s AVA label is hosting the main room. I’m playing there with Andy, Ashley Wallbridge, Myon & Shane54 and The Viceroy while The Bar is hosted by Cr2 with MYNC and Rhythm Masters headlining. I’ll be playing some big room progressive trance and will road test some new material from myself, Slusnik Luna and some other finnish goodies. Playing in that legendary big black room has been my dream since the summer of 1995 when I first visited MoS and playing there first time last year was a dream come true so I’m super excited to be back this weekend. On Saturday the Helsinki summer clubbing kicks off “officially” with the Mixxed terrace opening at Bio Rex. The club maybe small and tickets cheap, but Mixxed is in my opinion the best new club concept in Helsinki in couple years. Dancing outdoors in middle of Helsinki at 1am is nothing short of special by finnish standards and always creates a special vibe with people. The promoters/resident DJs Niko Geselle and Tony Profondo are no new comers but are one of the most promising and profilic fresh DJs in Helsinki during the last year or two. Always pleasure to hear them whether it’s SUN terrace at DTM, Pacifique outdoor area, JACK closing set or Playground afterhours. Facebook-event with all the info here:

The amazing weekend ends with a nine hour set at opening event of legendary Sunday School party at Lil Tony & Timi Uskali’s new venue YK (Yläkerta) at 10:00-19:00. Timi & Tony have been the dons of cooler Helsinki nightlife since early 90s and this is their biggest and most ambitious project so far. Techno events are first taking place on Sundays and see the return of Sunday School parties. Sunday School took place at Nylon venue in Helsinki around mid nineties and hosted some of the most hedonistic events of all times. Sunday has a really special relaxed vibe and for example during my New Year’s Day 23 hour set the daytime hours felt very special because it was so… different. This Sunday Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig is headlining the main room with a 4h set with Lil’ Tony supporting, while I’m playing an eclectic nine hour journey through chill out, midtempo balearic sound (old and new), Space Terrace classics and of course selected Nylon Sunday School classics. And of course with a hint of trance every now and then. Please check all the info with Lil Tony’s great “forewords” from the FB link below:

Summertime in Helsinki… Life does feel like a party!
