Pacifique review

Big party takes long time to process it seems as here is a very late Pacifique Lumiére review. For those of you not familiar with the concept it’s a 2000 people party in Europe’s largest indoor water park Serena. Pretty epic party at least in finnish scale.

Last couple years I’ve been involved mainly with the line-up of the event so it’s been nice to see the event production progressing. Main complainments from 2008 were the lack of foreign artists and poor quality of lights and sound in main arena and all of those were fixed in a great way. As always there are things to improve but if you compare the first (pretty chaotic from organisers’ point of view) with the latest one we’re on a totally different level nowadays productionwise.

The event was sold out month in advance which was a total surprise to all of us. Maybe the credit crunch makes people want this kind of mini holidays to escape the grim everyday life..? My favorite music picks at the event were: DJ Flight who’s set in main room was perfect summery house, Poliisi’s full on psy set in the cave and I enjoyed fully DJ Alfredo’s journey through balearic house classics from the past ten years. Sure his mixing wasn’t perfect but let’s keep in mind that he is THE one person to break most of those records originally in Ibiza. He was also such a warm, no-nonsense, no ego character which is not always the case with such legends…

I played a one and half hour set main room closing set with Heikki L and Mr.A under the “Pacifique Allstars” name. The last hours are always full on at Pacifique and for big gigs you bring the big guns. Full tracklist in the charts section of my site. Some highlights included Michael Cassette remix of Heikki L’s ‘Classic’, Joey Negro’s ‘Must Be The Music’ and the 2009 mash-up mix of Daft Punk’s ‘Around The World/Harder, Faster, Stronger’. To add little bit of special twist we opened with Richard Wagner’s ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ and closed with The Beatles’ ‘All You Need Is Love’. Big thanks and greetz also to everybody who attended our villa afterhours. Best sukkadisco action I’ve seen in a while! ;)
